This is not entirely co-incidental. Homeopathy and Provocative Therapy have a similar modus operandus. Homeopathy uses the principle of ‘like curing like’ to stimulate the body’s innate ability to heal itself. To do this it uses medicines (in homeopathic dilutions) that in full strength would actually cause the symptoms from the patient is suffering.
Provocative Therapists, with affection in the heart and a twinkle in the eye, ‘encourage’ patients to continue their self-defeating behavioural patterns. Paradoxically, (in much the same way as homeopathy) this tends to provoke people into helping themselves by stating, owning and enacting the solutions to their problems.
On the website of Frank Farrelly, the founder of Provocative Therapy, there is an article entitled Provocative Therapy as Homeopathic Psychotherapy.
Dr Kaplan is a Fellow of the Faculty of Homeopathy as well as being President of the British institute of Provocative Therapy.
